The following was a note received via our contact form:
For those of you out there questioning recovery, I ask you to think about what you couldn't do without it. I was one of those people. I have to think about it everyday. I received a phone call earlier this evening from a friend and she asked me if recovery is really worth it. I told her "through all the tears and pushing myself through meals... yeah. It's totally worth it.
Every male and female deserves to be free from this illness. it's not something you ask for. It's not an illness that comes for a while and then once you go to the doctor it goes away. No, this illness takes tears. It takes support. It takes hard work to get past everything your body and mind has been through.
For me this eating disorder has caused damage to my relationship with friends, family, God, food, exercise, having fun, laughing, smiling, relaxing, enjoying time to zone out in front of the TV without feeling guilty, and spending time with my friends at band camp. and there's probably a lot of other memories i missed out on because i was too sick to feel or to participate. I won't let this ruin or run my life anymore. I am grieving my ED now. It's time to let go. Once and for all.
I want my life now and onward to be happy. Genuinely happy. I don't want to put on a mask in the morning and say everything is okay when I need a hug. I want to go to school with my head high and say to other girls or guys struggling and tell them that recovery is worth hard work and tears that you'll have to put up with. I mean I'm battling against "myself". It's not me of course but I often find myself feeling like its apart of me. It's become attached for waayyy to long. I'm ready to grieve it and let it go.
I know that this is a rather long note, but I needed to say something before I went to bed. I hope that each and every one of you reading this can take that recovery and fighting for is hard but definitely worth it in the end. You will have a LIFE. That's free from rules, rituals, comparing, looking in mirrors, and judging. You'll have time to appreciate the bird's singing when you take a walk around your neighborhood, and have room in your mind to listen to a friend in need. I know that's what I get for giving up ED. Here's to recovery and all it has to offer!
